No greenwashing here. A new conversation about sustainability — more than superficial claims

Lab-grown natural ingredients could be the future of sustainable skincare.

Climate change is real and humanity is not operating anywhere close to a sufficiently sustainable level. Tiny Associates’s main contribution is to stir debate about an often overlooked, yet pressing, problem:

Too many skincare companies are sourcing nature-derived ingredients. As the demand for such ingredients increases, the burden on the planet´s limited resources rises as well. Producing plant-based ingredients requires land, water, sun and energy. Lab-grown ingredients require less.

Synthetic should not be a dirty word

Apart from spreading awareness about nature-derived ingredients — that they should neither be equated with sustainability nor considered effective skincare ingredients by default — Tiny Associates believe the solution lies in growing nature-identical molecules biosynthetically in a lab.

Biotechnologically obtained, nature-identical molecules decrease the need for farming and extraction, all of which have real implications for the planet. It also reduces the carbon footprint of lengthy global supply chains. The beauty of biotechnologically made molecules is that they are typically healthier, while their environmental impact is lower. It is the same technology that is driving many sustainability efforts in industries such as food and fashion.

Our Commitment

We acknowledge that we can do more. Making sustainable products is difficult. To this end, Tiny Associates is also working on other internal sustainability-related projects.

Tiny Associates would like to deploy the most sustainable packaging solution possible. For a lack of a better alternative, we currently commit ourselves to remove the same amount of plastic from the ocean as is used in the packaging for our creams.

We are also committed to using as many biodegradable molecules as possible in our products. Currently, approximately 40% of the molecules we use are biodegradable according to the OECD standard.
